What NATE Certification is and Why it Matters

November 08, 2016

Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning in Raleigh always talks about how our service techs are NATE-certified, and while it sounds encouraging, what does it truly mean?

NATE is the acronym for North American Technician Excellence and, according to their website, is the nation’s largest certification organization for HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) and refrigeration technicians. The organization was developed by and has been supported by the entire HVAC and refrigeration industry but not all people in the industry are required to be certified through NATE. The certification is discretionary and technicians can work in the heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration industry without being certified by NATE.

It’s important to Service Experts that our technicians are NATE-certified to make sure we are sending the most qualified and professional technicians into your home. To make sure professionals meet these standards, the NATE-certification assessments validate real-world working knowledge of HVAC and refrigeration systems for technicians. The tests are knowledge-based tests that assess the technician’s knowledge of these criteria.

Since Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning focuses on the HVAC side of NATE-certification (not refrigeration), there are only specific areas pertinent to our technicians. NATE test candidates may obtain installation and/or service certification in one or more of the talent areas listed below:

  • Air Conditioning
